Hankou – Yichang Highway in 2012

Located at the wet area in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River under the influence of subtropical monsoon climate, the Hubei Hankou – Yichang Highway has a mean annual precipitation of 1,200~1,385.8 mm and belongs to the rainy area.

The mixture is segregated when paving asphalt pavement, which leads to high void ratio (the ratio exceeds 8% of specified level) and project acceptance failure. In consideration of the above, the engineering headquarters decided to use this material and all indexes are finally satisfied.

l  The water permeability coefficient of this road section is basically 200~300 ml/min before use.

l  After sprayed with waterproof materials, the entire road section under test has water permeability coefficient of 0 and there is no water penetration; the pavement has good resistance to water.

l  The water permeability coefficient of pavement is still 0 after being used for 3 years.

l  Structural depth and road surface of pavement have fewer changes after sprayed with waterproof materials, as such material has low density, viscosity and good permeability and it can enter the voids of pavement to resist water; therefore, it has minor influence on the structural depth and friction coefficient.
